Not every evening calls for a balloon glass, an open fire and thoughtful silence. Sometimes you just want a good, uncomplicated brandy – one that tastes nice from the first sip, doesn’t burn, and is as happy poured into a tall glass with cola as it is drunk just as it comes. That is exactly what Mild Brandy is for.

Here the emphasis is on everything light and soft. Green grapes, juicy pear and vanilla make a brandy that is kind to the palate and easy to like, even for those who usually find brandy a rather hefty affair. That makes it one of the most versatile bottles you can keep at home.

Colour & Appearance

The finished brandy is pale gold, roughly the shade of apple juice or light honey, clear and bright in the glass. The colour alone signals a lighter style.

Nose

The nose is fresh and friendly. Fresh green grapes and ripe pear stand at the front, with vanilla sugar, a little golden raisin and a hint of citrus peel just behind. Right at the end there is a soft suggestion of oak and toffee – just enough to let you know it is brandy in the glass.

Palate

The palate follows the nose. It begins gently with grape and pear, almost like fruit compote, and then picks up roundness from vanilla and a small sweetness reminiscent of golden syrup. The warmth is subdued and arrives late, which makes the brandy unusually easy to drink straight. A faint note of almond and toasted wood gives it a little backbone at the end. In a mixed drink, the fruit and vanilla hold their own through both ice and cola without being drowned out.

Finish

The finish is short to medium, clean and soft. Pear and vanilla stay for a while, and then the palate is ready for the next sip.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit, and the brandy can be drunk right away. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished brandy. Instructions are on the label.

Serving Suggestions

• With cola, plenty of ice and a wedge of lemon – the classic.
• Straight in a small glass, ideally lightly chilled.
• With ginger ale and a slice of pear.
• In hot tea with honey after a day outdoors.
• As the base for a fruit punch with citrus and berries at the summer party.
