UP Absinthe Red Dragon Essence 20 ml
UP Absinthe Red Dragon Essence 20 ml – essence for a red, spicy absinthe
UP Absinthe Red Dragon turns vodka or neutral spirit into a ruby-red absinthe with wormwood, green anise and fennel – plus a warm note all of its own of red berries, hibiscus and cinnamon.
The 20 ml bottle makes 750 ml of finished absinthe with 35 mg thujone per bottle. Instructions are on the label.
Serve with an absinthe spoon, a sugar cube and ice-cold water dripped in slowly until the drink turns a milky pink.
UP Absinthe Red Dragon Essence 20 ml
Absinthe is usually green. This one is red – and that is no cosmetic detail. Red Dragon is our own creation, developed and made by us, and we know of no equivalent. The idea was simple: let the colour be heard in the flavour. So a warm, berryish, lightly spiced note sits on top of the classic absinthe body of wormwood, green anise and fennel.
The result is an absinthe that feels familiar and new at the same time. Everything that belongs in a real absinthe is there – the herbs, the oils and the extracts – and the essence is entirely natural. But where the green classic is cool and austere, Red Dragon is glowing and generous – made for anyone who loves the ritual of the artists’ cafés and their green hour but wants something unexpected on the table.
Colour & Appearance
Once mixed, the drink glows ruby red, like raspberry cordial held up to the light. When ice-cold water drips through the sugar cube, the magic happens: the oils come out of solution and the absinthe louches, from transparent red to a milky, pearly pink.
Nose
The nose opens with green anise and star anise, followed by the dry, herbal bitterness of wormwood. Close behind comes the red side – hibiscus, ripe berries and a streak of cinnamon – together with hyssop, lemon balm and a touch of coriander. Think of a herb garden on a warm afternoon.
Palate
On the palate it is dry, herbal and bittersweet. Anise and fennel give the first, cool impression before the wormwood steps forward with its elegant bitterness. Then the red character spreads out: tart hibiscus, a hint of red berries and a spicy cinnamon warmth with a peppery nip at the back of the tongue. Add water and the edges soften, the herbs unfold, and the sugar binds anise, bitterness and spice into one smooth whole.
Finish
The finish is long and warming. The coolness of the anise lingers on the lips while wormwood, cinnamon and a dry, berryish note slowly fade away.
How to Use
The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit – ideally a somewhat stronger spirit if you want classic absinthe character. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished absinthe with 35 mg thujone per bottle. Instructions are on the label.
