UP Absinthe Mint Essence 20 ml
Anise and mint are old friends. Both are cool, both are green at heart and both are at their best served really cold. In Absinthe Mint they get to share a glass: a real absinthe with wormwood and all the classic herbs, flavoured with peppermint and dressed in an unexpected blue that makes every tray turn heads.
The mint makes the absinthe livelier and easier to drink without it losing its soul. The bitterness of the wormwood remains, as does the dry herbal character, but on top lies a clean, fresh note that brings to mind freshly picked leaves and peppermint pastilles. An absinthe for summer evenings, for parties – and for anyone who wants to try the ritual from the green hour of the artists’ cafés in a more playful guise.
Colour & Appearance
Once mixed, the drink is a clear blue, like the water of a mountain lake. Drip in ice-cold water through a sugar cube and watch how it louches: the blue clouds into a milky, ice-blue pastel with a pearly shimmer – one of the most beautiful glasses you can set before a guest.
Nose
The nose is cool and lively. Peppermint comes first, clean and menthol-fresh, with sweeter spearmint just after. Then the absinthe takes over: green anise, star anise and fennel, with the dry herbal tones of wormwood, hyssop and lemon balm at the base.
Palate
The palate opens freshly with mint and anise in equal parts – cool, a little sweet and very clean. In the middle comes the wormwood with its dry bitterness, giving the drink backbone, while fennel and coriander top it up with green spice. The mint returns towards the end and lifts the whole thing. With water and sugar the drink becomes bittersweet and smooth, like a herbal mint pastille in liquid form.
Finish
The finish is long and cooling. The chill of the peppermint and the liquorice note of the anise linger, with a light, dry bitterness to close.
How to Use
The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit – a slightly stronger spirit if you like, according to taste. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished absinthe with 35 mg thujone per bottle. Instructions are on the label.
Serving Suggestions
- Classic: absinthe spoon, sugar cube and ice-cold water left to drip until the drink has turned a milky ice blue.
- As a frappé over crushed ice with fresh mint and a little sugar syrup.
- With soda, lime and mint leaves – a blue, anise-scented relative of the Mojito.
- With lemon soda and ice in a tall glass.
- A splash in hot chocolate for a herbal mint twist.
About the Essence
Absinthe Mint is at home in the UP range, Ultra Premium, our highest quality level. It contains real absinthe ingredients and therefore louches with water, exactly as an absinthe should.
The essence also comes in 280 ml – with or without 14 absinthe labels and a measure – in 1000 ml with a measure included, and in 25 litres. A colourful addition to the party table and a fresh contrast to the drier, more wormwood-driven absinthes in the range.
