UP Absinthe Gold Essence 20 ml

Most people know green and white absinthe. Gold is something else – an absinthe we have developed and make ourselves, our own speciality in the Ultra Premium series. The idea was simple: keep everything that makes absinthe absinthe, but dress it in warmer, rounder clothes.

The result is an absinthe that glows like autumn sun in the glass and tastes softer than its siblings. The wormwood, anise and fennel are all still there, but they are joined by honeyed, floral notes that make Gold the most inviting absinthe we have – even for those who otherwise find absinthe a touch too austere.

Colour & Appearance

The finished absinthe is a clear golden yellow, somewhere between pale honey and old gold. As the iced water drips in, a milky cloud rises through the glass, and the drink finally becomes a dense, creamy-yellow opal reminiscent of custard held up to the light.

Nose

The nose is warm and floral. Camomile and light honey meet anise and fennel, with a soft vanilla note in the background. The wormwood sits lower than in a green absinthe and contributes a dry, hay-like herbal quality. Lemon balm and a hint of coriander bring freshness to the sweetness.

Palate

The palate opens round and smooth with honey, vanilla and sweet fennel. The anise follows close behind and provides that cool, classic absinthe feeling, while the camomile lays an apple-blossom, almost tea-like note across the middle. The bitterness of the wormwood is softer and comes late – it frames rather than dominates – and hyssop and star anise make sure the drink still ends dry. For all its sweet aromas, Gold is no liqueur; the balance is bittersweet, and with water the mouthfeel becomes velvety.

Finish

The finish is long and warm. Honey, camomile and anise linger together with a fine, dry wormwood note that keeps the sweetness in check.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit and can be enjoyed straight away. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished absinthe. Instructions are on the label. Dilute in the glass with ice-cold water to taste.

Serving Suggestions

• With an absinthe spoon and slowly dripping iced water – try it without the sugar cube first, as Gold is round enough on its own.
• With a teaspoon of honey stirred into the water for an extra-smooth version.
• With cold camomile tea and ice as a golden long drink.
• With sparkling wine and a twist of lemon zest.
• Over vanilla ice cream, or in a syrup for pears and apple cake.

About the Essence

UP stands for Ultra Premium, our highest quality level. Absinthe Gold is a real absinthe with 35 mg thujone per finished bottle, it louches and turns milky with water – and it is a product you will not find anywhere but with us.
