PR Tango Gin Essence 20 ml
PR Tango Gin Essence 20 ml – essence for an intense, juniper-dry gin
PR Tango Gin Essence turns vodka or neutral spirit into a gin with a great deal of flavour – intense juniper, angelica, coriander and liquorice root, dry and peppery with next to no citrus.
The 20 ml bottle makes 750 ml of finished gin. Instructions are on the label.
Stands up to plenty of tonic – and holds firm in an ice-cold Martini.
PR Tango Gin Essence 20 ml
The tango is not danced by a whole ensemble. It is danced by a few, close together and at full intensity – and that is precisely how this gin is put together. Instead of a dozen botanicals jostling for space, Tango Gin is built on a handful: juniper, angelica, coriander and liquorice root. Fewer voices, but each one singing at the top of its lungs.
The result is a gin with a lot of flavour. The citrus that many gins lean on has been almost entirely stripped away here, leaving a dry, piney, peppery core of unusual concentration. This is the gin for anyone who thinks gin should taste of gin – and who wants to notice it even when the glass is filled to the brim with tonic and ice.
Colour & Appearance
In the glass, Tango Gin is completely clear and colourless, with a bright, almost steely sheen. It looks as uncompromising as it tastes, and gives a slightly denser impression than lighter gins when swirled.
Nose
The nose is juniper in close-up: pine needles, resin and crushed berries, like a stroll through a dry pine forest. Around the juniper lie the musk and earthiness of angelica root, a warm spiciness of coriander seed and a dark, faintly sweet root note of liquorice. What is missing says just as much – no perfume, no flowers and scarcely any citrus peel to distract.
Palate
The palate strikes with force. Juniper fills the whole mouth, oily and piney, quickly followed by a peppery heat that comes from the coriander and angelica working together. The liquorice root adds weight and a dry, rooty fullness that rounds things off without ever making the gin sweet. At the heart of the flavour there is an almost mineral austerity, and the mouthfeel is firm and concentrated. Lengthen it with tonic and it stays put, clear and upright, where milder gins would have dissolved.
Finish
The finish is long, dry and peppery. The resin of the juniper and a warming spiciness stay on the tongue for a good while, with liquorice root as a final dark note. The close is clean and entirely free of sweetness.
How to Use
The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit and the gin is ready to use at once. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished gin. Instructions are on the label.
Serving Suggestions
- Gin and tonic with a generous measure of tonic – a wedge of lime is all the garnish it needs.
- Dry Martini, very cold and very dry, with an olive.
- Gibson with a pickled onion for those who like it crisper still.
- Gin Rickey with lime and soda, with no sugar at all.
- Negroni, where the juniper squares up to the bitterness.
About the Essence
Tango Gin is part of the PR (Prestige) range and speaks to those who already know they like gin. It is a natural choice when the drink contains a lot else – tonic, ice, juice – and the gin still needs to come through clearly.
The essence is available in 20 ml, 280 ml, 1000 ml and 25 litres. For anyone wanting to go a step further there is also the sister product UP Tango DRY in the Ultra Premium range, with the same few, powerful botanicals in an even tauter and more concentrated rendition.
