A really good vodka is not tasteless – it is discreet. Anyone who has ever sipped a well-made wheat vodka at room temperature knows there is a whole small world in there: freshly baked bread, a hint of sweetness, something reminiscent of dried fruit and a softness that lets each mouthful slip down without resistance. That is exactly the style Viking Premium Vodka is built to deliver.

The essence takes an ordinary neutral spirit and gives it body, roundness and that grainy warmth which separates a premium vodka from plain alcohol. The result is an unflavoured grain vodka that stands entirely on its own in a shot glass, yet also lifts every drink it ends up in.

Colour & Appearance

Once mixed, the vodka is crystal clear and bright, without the slightest tint. Swirl the glass and you will see it cling softly to the sides and run back in slow, even curtains – a first sign of the generous mouthfeel to come.

Nose

The nose is clean and restrained, but far from empty. First comes a gentle note of wheat flour and pale bread, like breaking open a roll fresh from the oven. Behind it you catch dried apple and golden raisins, a faint sweetness of vanilla sugar and a cool, almost mineral freshness.

Palate

The palate is full and strikingly soft. The opening is lightly sweet and grainy, with a clear character of wheat and bread crust. In the middle of the mouth the vodka spreads out – round, almost a touch oily – and that discreet fruit appears again: dried pear, a little citrus peel. The warmth of the spirit is well tucked in and never sticks out, which makes the vodka unusually easy to drink even without a mixer.

Finish

The finish is clean and medium-long. A mild breadiness and a small peppery warmth linger for a while before everything fades into a dry, fresh sensation that has you reaching for another sip.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished drink that can be enjoyed straight away. Instructions are on the label.

Serving Suggestions

• Ice-cold from the freezer as a schnapps with pickled herring, crayfish and cured salmon.
• A splash in your coffee – a good old-fashioned laced coffee.
• With freshly squeezed orange juice and ice for a classic screwdriver.
• With cola and a wedge of lime, or with tonic and cucumber.
• In a vodka martini with dry vermouth and a twist of lemon.

About the Essence
