PR Navy Rum Essence 20 ml
PR Navy Rum Essence 20 ml – essence for the sailors’ legendary dark rum
PR Navy Rum turns vodka or neutral spirit into a dark, full-bodied navy rum – a blend of several rum styles with molasses, dark cane sugar, liquorice, coffee, spices and a hint of tar and salt.
The 20 ml bottle makes 750 ml of finished spirit. Instructions are on the label.
Drink it as grog with water and lime, with ginger beer, or neat in a generous glass.
PR Navy Rum Essence 20 ml
For centuries the daily rum ration was the fixed point of life aboard the warships. When the ship’s bell rang the crew lined up on deck, the rum tub was carried out and each man received his measure – a ritual that lived on well into the twentieth century. The rum that was poured was no ordinary rum, but a type all of its own.
For the fleet’s rum was always a blend. Heavy, dark rums were married with lighter, fruitier ones, and the result was fuller and more complex than any of the parts alone. PR Navy Rum is composed in that tradition: dark, powerful in flavour and with that scent of tarred rope and sea air that belongs to the romance of the sailor’s life.
Colour & Appearance
The finished drink is very dark, like strong coffee or wet teak, with reddish-brown reflections along the rim of the glass. It looks as steady as a ship’s deck.
Nose
The nose is deep and complex. Molasses and dark cane sugar form the foundation, and on top lie liquorice root, freshly ground coffee and allspice. Then comes the maritime side: a note of wood tar, smoky rope and a breath of salt, with a little dried fruit in the background.
Palate
The palate is broad and full-bodied – you can tell that several rum styles are sharing the glass. First a dark, almost chewy sweetness of cane sugar and molasses, then liquorice, espresso and bitter cocoa. The spices are distinct: clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and black pepper. A fruitier side with raisins and ripe banana flits past before tar, smoke and a pinch of salt give the drink its characteristic, slightly gruff ending.
Finish
The finish is long and warming. Liquorice, burnt sugar and coffee stay for a long time, and a dry, smoky note of tar lingers last of all – like the smell in your clothes after a day at sea.
How to Use
The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished spirit that is ready to drink straight away. Instructions are on the label.

About the Essence
PR Navy Rum is part of the PR (Prestige) series and has long been one of the most appreciated rum essences in the range. It suits anyone who wants more weight and more nuance than an ordinary dark rum offers, and it stands firm even in strongly flavoured drinks.
The essence comes in several sizes – 50 ml, 60 ml, 280 ml, 1000 ml and 25 litres – so that both the sailing crew and the bar can keep the ration up.
