Black Label is the lemon vodka for those after exactly that experience: more of everything, yet with the cool elegance of the vodka still intact.

Where an ordinary lemon vodka settles for the freshness of the peel, PR Lemon Vodka Black Label builds its flavour in several layers. The zest is denser and oilier, a green, herbal note of lemon balm gives lift, and a slight rounding of sweet lemon means the intensity never turns sharp. Colour & Appearance

In the glass the finished vodka is crystal clear with a beautiful lustre. The texture seems a touch fuller than a regular vodka’s, and well chilled it moves slowly along the glass.

Nose

The nose is strikingly intense. Dense lemon zest and pressed lemon oil fill the nostrils at once, followed by the green, almost minty freshness of lemon balm. Further in there is a sweet, floral note – sweet lemon, lemon blossom and a suggestion of candied peel – which gives the aroma depth and warmth.

Palate

The palate is concentrated and layered. First comes the zest, full and oily, with a clarity that feels like biting into a finely shredded strip of peel. Then the lemon balm unfolds and makes the mid-palate herbal and cool. The small note of sweet lemon ties it all together and gives a rounded, almost silky mouthfeel, even though the drink is fundamentally dry. Beneath it all rests a clean, soft grain vodka that lets the citrus shine without disappearing itself.

Finish

Here the difference from simpler lemon vodkas is clearest: the finish is long. Lemon oil and candied peel ring on, the lemon balm gives a cool exhale and the warmth is soft and even all the way through.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit and the drink can be served straight away – no sugar is needed. Choose a really clean vodka as your base, so the nuances come through. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished drink. Instructions are on the label.

• Ice-cold and neat in a small frosted glass, with oysters, fish roe or lobster.
• A dry vodka Martini with a long twist of lemon zest.
• A lemon drop with a sugared rim – rarely has it tasted so much of lemon.
