PR Lemon Gin Essence 20 ml
Watch what happens whenever a gin and tonic is set down: almost without fail, a slice of lemon goes into the glass. Gin and lemon belong together like few other flavours, and Lemon Gin follows that thought all the way. Here the lemon is already in the bottle – not as sweetened squash, but as the scent of freshly grated peel and the tiny droplets of oil that spray out when you twist a strip of zest over the glass.
Beneath the citrus lies a proper gin, mild yet dry, with juniper and coriander for structure. That makes Lemon Gin an unusually easy bottle to find a place for: fresh enough to sip on the rocks on a warm evening, and at the same time crisp enough to do the job in a classic cocktail.
Colour & Appearance
The finished gin is as clear as spring water. For all the lemon on the nose there is no colour and no cloudiness – just a bright, glossy sheen that promises freshness before the glass has even reached your nose.
Nose
The nose is sunny and clean. Freshly grated lemon peel comes first, followed by the slightly deeper, almost perfumed note of lemon oil. Lemon balm adds a green, herbal streak that calls to mind a herb garden in June. Behind it all the juniper stands calmly in the background, and the coriander reinforces the citrus with its own gently lemony spice.
Palate
The palate opens fresh, with a lemon that feels genuine and zesty rather than sour – this is no liqueur and no fizzy drink, but a dry gin. After the first burst of citrus the juniper steps forward and gives the gin its backbone, softly piney and without sharp edges. Coriander and a hint of white pepper bring warmth to the middle, while the lemon balm lingers as a cool, green note. The whole is mild and round in the mouth, with a lightness that lets it work neat over ice.
Finish
The finish is clean and refreshing. The fine bitterness of lemon peel and a quiet juniper fade away together, leaving a dry, lightly herbal impression that makes the next sip feel like the obvious thing to do.
How to Use
The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit, and then the gin is ready to serve. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished gin. Instructions are on the label.
Serving Suggestions
- Gin and tonic with the lemon already built in – garnish with a sprig of lemon balm or thyme.
- On the rocks with a long strip of lemon peel.
- Tom Collins or Gin Fizz, where the citrus note comes through twice as clearly.
- White Lady with orange liqueur and lemon juice.
- With bitter lemon or lemon soda as a quick summer long drink.
About the Essence
Lemon Gin is part of the PR (Prestige) range and a natural choice if you feel gin should taste fresh rather than stern. Its mild profile also makes it a good gateway gin for guests who would otherwise steer clear of juniper.
Beyond the drinks it earns its keep in the kitchen: a splash in a vinaigrette, over cured fish or in a lemon sorbet adds both citrus and a delicate spiciness. The essence is also available in 280 ml, 1000 ml and 25 litres for those mixing for a crowd.
