Cut a kiwi in half and you have one of nature’s best-looking fruits in front of you: emerald-green flesh, a pale star in the middle and a ring of tiny black seeds. The flavour is as perky as the colour – green, tart and juicy, with a kinship to gooseberries and green grapes that makes it unusually refreshing.

PR Kiwi Vodka takes that freshness and places it on a clean grain vodka. The result is a light, dry flavoured vodka without the sweetness of a liqueur, where the kiwi is allowed to be just as green and tangy as it is in real life. A vodka that brightens up both the schnapps glass and the cocktail menu.

Colour & Appearance

The finished vodka is water-clear and lustrous. The essence adds flavour and aroma but no colour, so if you want green in the glass, the garnish – a slice of kiwi on the rim – will have to take care of that.

Nose

The nose is green and lively. Freshly cut kiwi comes first, closely followed by gooseberry, green apple and a hint of lime. There is also a softer, almost melon-like fruitiness at the base and a faint floral note. The vodka’s clean grain character sits discreetly behind and lets the fruit take the lead.

Palate

The palate is fresh and direct. The acidity shows at once – clean and bright like a just-ripe gooseberry – and carries the green, juicy kiwi fruit forward. Then comes a rounder fruitiness with touches of green grapes and pear, which balances the tartness without any need for sweetness. The close on the tongue is dry, with a light mineral feel and the vodka’s gentle warmth. It is a flavour that almost works as a palate cleanser: light, clean and thirst-quenching.

Finish

The finish is short to medium-long and very fresh. Green fruit and a fine tartness fade slowly, leaving a clean, cool sensation that makes it tempting to refill the glass.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit and can be enjoyed straight away. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished spirit. Instructions are on the label.

Serving Suggestions

• Ice-cold as a schnapps with crayfish, shellfish and light summer buffets.
• With lemon soda or pear soda and a slice of kiwi.
• With apple juice, lime and crushed ice – green and thirst-quenching.
• With tonic and cucumber for a crisp, herbal long drink.
• Blended with fresh kiwi, ice and sugar syrup into a frozen summer drink.
