There is a moment in July when raspberries are at their very best – warm from the sun, so ripe they almost drop from the cane, sweet and sharp all at once. That flavour is hard to hold on to. Jam turns out too sweet, cordial too tame. But in a clean vodka you can capture precisely that fresh, fragrant side of the berry without drowning it in sugar.

Colour & Appearance

Once mixed, the vodka is crystal clear, without the slightest blush of pink. That is part of the charm – the glass appears to hold pure vodka, and the berry flavour arrives as a happy surprise.

Nose

The nose is like leaning over a punnet of freshly picked raspberries. Ripe, juicy berries lead, with a light floral note reminiscent of violet and rose petals – just as in real raspberries. Beneath the fruit there is something green and fresh, like raspberry leaf, and a clean grain note from the vodka.

Palate

The palate is light and fresh. The raspberry arrives at once, juicy and true to nature, with that little streak of tartness that makes the berry feel alive rather than sweet-shop sugary. There is a hint of the faintly nutty grip of the tiny seeds, which adds character and keeps the flavour from becoming one-dimensional. Because the drink is dry, the vodka’s clean, soft backbone has room to show, and the whole is lively and thirst-quenching rather than sweet.

Finish

The finish is clean and medium-long. The raspberry lingers like a fragrant echo, the acidity refreshes the palate and what remains is a gentle warmth that invites the next sip.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit and the drink is ready to serve at once, without sugar. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished raspberry vodka. Instructions are on the label.

• Well chilled as a berry-scented schnapps with the summer buffet or a plate of crayfish.
• With soda, fresh raspberries and a sprig of mint.
• A splash in the bottom of a glass of sparkling wine.
• With lemonade and plenty of ice.

About the Essence

Raspberry Vodka belongs to the Prestige series (PR), where flavours are meant to sit close to the drink that inspired them and to feel natural. The essence is colourless and highly concentrated, yet forgiving: a few drops too many or too few will not decide the outcome – follow the label and the bottle turns out the same every time. If you prefer a sweeter drink, it is perfectly fine to round it off with a little sugar syrup to your own taste, but do try it dry first.

The flavour also comes in the LW series 32 ml bottle, which makes two bottles, in 280 ml and 1000 ml for parties and bars, and in 25 litres for producers. Whatever the size, it is the same light, sun-ripened raspberry character that ends up in the glass.
