AGAVE GOLD BRANDY Essence 20 ml

If blanco is the fresh, sharp side of agave spirit, gold is its warm one. Here the green, peppery agave has been joined by caramel, vanilla and the faintest hint of oak, and the result is a spirit that is considerably kinder to the palate – big and full in flavour, yet mild in manner. It is the style for those who want to be able to sip their agave spirit, not just knock it back.

Agave Gold Essence makes an exclusive, gold-coloured agave spirit where the plant’s sweet, earthy character remains at the base while honey and toffee settle softly on top. It is excellent as a shot with a wedge of orange and cinnamon instead of salt and lime – a combination many people find nicer – and it gives the Margarita more body.

Colour & Appearance

In the glass the spirit shimmers pale gold, like straw or light honey, clear and warm in tone. The colour gives the rounder flavour away.

Nose

The nose is sweet and soft. Cooked agave and honey are right at the front, followed by cream toffee, vanilla pod and a little orange peel. The green, herbal side is still there but has taken a step back, and in its place you sense cinnamon, white pepper and a light note of toasted oak.

Palate

The palate is round and generous. It begins with agave’s characteristic sweetness – somewhere between honey and baked root vegetable – and glides into caramel and vanilla. A gentle pepperiness keeps the middle alive, and the citrus is present as a discreet freshness rather than acidity. The oak shows mostly as a soft, slightly toasted note towards the end. The mouthfeel is silkier and fuller than blanco’s, and the warmth is even and pleasant all the way through.

Finish

The finish is medium to long, soft and sweet, with toffee, agave and a small spicy glow of pepper and cinnamon that lingers on.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit, and the spirit can be served at once. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished agave spirit. Instructions are on the label.

Serving Suggestions

• A shot with a wedge of orange dipped in cinnamon – try it instead of salt and lime.
• Margarita with orange liqueur and lime, rounder and fuller than with blanco.
• Neat in a small glass, at room temperature, for sipping.
• With pineapple juice, lime and ice – or with ginger ale and a slice of orange.
• In a glaze for grilled chicken or spare ribs, with honey and chilli.

About the Essence

Agave Gold suits those who find clear agave spirit a touch too angular, or who simply want a more rounded shot to offer round. It is a sure-fire party favourite and a good first encounter with agave for the uninitiated.
