Mix with tonic, grapefruit soda or orange juice – or try a soft dry Martini with vermouth.
PR Gin Gi 20 ml
There are gins that want to be the centre of attention, and then there are gins that make everything else in the glass taste better. Gin Gi belongs to the latter kind. It is the friendly gin – the one that stands out on the buffet table next to the soft drinks, juice and ice, and works with anything the guests decide to pour in.
The secret is the citrus. Where more austere gins lean on pine and pepper, Gin Gi has been given a generous dose of orange and lemon peel that lends a sunny, almost slightly sweet fruitiness, even though the gin itself is dry. The juniper is in there, otherwise it wouldn’t be gin, but it is mild and rounded. A pinch of cinnamon bark and a floral undertone do the rest. The result is easy-drinking, uncomplicated and very hard to dislike.
Colour & Appearance
The finished gin is clear as water and completely colourless. Poured over ice in a tall glass it looks fresh and inviting, and it happily takes on the colour and character of whatever you mix it with.
Nose
The nose is mild and fruity. Orange peel comes first – think freshly peeled orange rather than marmalade – followed by lemon and a soft, green note of juniper. The coriander contributes its citrus-like spiciness, and furthest in there is a warm waft of cinnamon bark and something floral, like orange blossom or elderflower.
Palate
The flavour is round and pleasant from the outset. The citrus peels give a sweet-fresh opening that makes the gin seem softer than it really is. The juniper slips into the mid-palate, enough to give gin character but without resin or harshness. Coriander and cinnamon bark settle like a warm blanket in the background, and a small floral note keeps the whole thing light. There is neither sharpness nor sting here – this is a gin that slides down just as easily in a fruity long drink as in a classic G&T.
Finish
The aftertaste is short to medium in length, soft and clean. Orange peel and a mild spiciness fade away calmly, with no bitterness.
How to Use
The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit and the gin can be enjoyed straight away. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished gin. Instructions are on the label.
Serving Suggestions
- Gin and tonic with a slice of orange instead of lemon – brings out the gin’s citrus side.
- With grapefruit soda and ice, quick and thirst-quenching.
- Gin and juice: orange or pineapple juice in a tall glass.
- A soft dry Martini with a little more vermouth than usual and an orange twist.
- With bitter lemon or lemonade when things need to move fast at the party.
About the Essence
Gin Gi belongs to the PR (Prestige) series and is one of the easiest gins in the range to find a place for – a safe choice when you don’t know what the guests like, or when the gin is mainly going into mixed drinks. The 20 ml bottle makes one 75 cl bottle.
If you get through more, the same essence comes in 280 ml, 1000 ml and 25 litres. For a more austere, juniper-led gin, take a look at Gin Go – or for a lighter, floral one, Gin Black Bull.
