PR Cinnamon Schnapps Essence 20 ml

Cinnamon in a schnapps glass may sound like Christmas Eve, but this schnapps is something quite different from mulled wine and gingerbread. Picture instead a golden, off-dry herbal schnapps in which cinnamon conducts a whole orchestra of spices and herbs – warm and spicy on the nose, fresh and lightly bitter on the palate.

PR Cinnamon Schnapps draws on an old apothecary tradition, in which herbal schnapps were composed with care and served in small glasses before or after a meal. The result is a unique and unusual spirit: lighter and paler than the dark herbal liqueurs, but with at least as much personality.

Colour & Appearance

Once mixed, the schnapps turns a clear golden yellow, like pale honey or autumn sun through a window. It is bright and light in the glass, without the weight of a liqueur.

Nose

Cinnamon reaches the nose first – not the sweet cinnamon of a bun, but dry, woody cinnamon bark. Close behind come clove and anise, fresh ginger and a waft of orange peel. Breathe in once more and you find honey, cardamom and a green, slightly medicinal herbal quality that gives the aroma its distinctive stamp.

Palate

The palate is a balancing act. It opens with a light sweetness of honey and cinnamon, but a moment later the spices take over: clove, ginger and an anise-fresh coolness. Then comes the herbal bitterness – mild, clean and appetising – which makes the schnapps end drier than it began. The body is light and the warmth agreeable. Ice cold it is slender and fresh; at room temperature the cinnamon and clove come into full bloom.

Finish

The finish is medium-long and spicy. Cinnamon bark and clove linger together with a fine bitterness, and the mouth feels both warm and clean afterwards.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit and can be served straight away. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished drink. Instructions are on the label.

Serving Suggestions

• Ice cold in a small glass, before or after a meal.
• With tonic, plenty of ice and a slice of lemon – an unexpectedly fresh long drink.
• With cloudy apple juice and ice, topped with a cinnamon stick.
