PR Cherry Vodka Essence 20 ml

Cherries and spirits have belonged together for generations, but usually in the shape of heavy, sweet liqueurs. Cherry vodka is something else entirely: a clear, dry vodka where the fruit sits as a thin, true-to-life layer on top of clean grain spirit. No syrup, no stickiness – just the taste of biting into a dark, juicy cherry.

It is a style that has become a bartender’s favourite, because it brings unmistakable fruit character without upsetting the sweetness of a drink. At the same time it is soft and rounded enough to stand on its own, as a schnapps with food or as a small, cold nightcap at the end of the evening.

Colour & Appearance

The finished drink is completely clear and colourless, bright as spring water. In the glass it looks like any ordinary vodka – the surprise only arrives when you lift the glass to your nose.

Nose

The nose is clean and distinct: dark sweet cherries and morellos, freshly rinsed and still cool. Behind the fruit there is a fine almond note, the kind that comes from the cherry stone, and a streak of cherry skin that adds a light firmness. The grain vodka’s own scent – clean, with an echo of freshly baked bread – stays discreetly in the background.

Palate

The palate opens softly and fruitily with ripe, dark cherries, with no hint of jam or boiled sweets. Mid-palate a little tartness steps forward, as if from a sour cherry, keeping the fruit fresh and lively. The nutty almond bitterness of the cherry stone adds depth and a grown-up tone, while the grain spirit contributes its smooth, clean body. The overall impression is dry – the sweetness you notice comes from the fruit aroma, not from sugar.

Finish

The finish is medium-long and clean. Cherry skin, a touch of almond and a fresh acidity linger, and your mouth feels refreshed rather than sweet.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished spirit that can be enjoyed straight away. Instructions are on the label.

Serving Suggestions

• Well chilled as a schnapps – excellent with game pâté, duck liver and mature cheeses.
• A splash in a cup of strong coffee, ideally with a piece of dark chocolate on the side.
• With cola, ice and a wedge of lime for a grown-up cherry cola.
• With orange juice and plenty of ice – simple, fruity and fresh.
• In a cherry martini with dry vermouth and a cocktail cherry in the glass.
