The sound of biting into a cold, hard autumn apple – that crunch – cannot be bottled. But the flavour can. Apple Vodka is built around exactly that crisp, juicy freshness: tart green apple at the start, sweeter red apple in the middle and the gentle grip of apple peel at the end.

The drink is dry and clear, a long way from sweet apple liqueurs and sour apple shots. That makes it one of the easiest fruit vodkas to use. It works with food, it works in mixed drinks, and it works perfectly well in a small, frosted glass all on its own.

Colour & Appearance

Once mixed it is bright and colourless, without the slightest lean towards yellow or green. Clean and stylish in the glass.

Nose

The nose is lively and immediate. Freshly cut green apple comes first, with its brisk acidity, followed by the rounder, more perfumed tone of red apple. Apple peel and a hint of core keep it natural, and somewhere in the background there is a warm association with apple cake and cinnamon – although no spice is actually there. It is the apple’s own warmth playing tricks.

Palate

On the palate the drink is crisp and juicy. The green apple acidity gives a fresh attack that is quickly balanced by ripe, red apple fruit. The mid-palate is round and fruity with a suggestion of cloudy apple juice, before the light tannin of the peel tightens things up. The clean grain vodka provides a soft body and lets the fruit hold centre stage all the way through.

Finish

Afterwards, apple peel and a clean, fresh acidity linger in the mouth. The finish is dry and medium-long, with a small warm echo that brings freshly baked apple pie to mind.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished spirit that can be served straight away. Instructions are on the label.

Serving Suggestions

• A cold schnapps with roast pork, pickled herring or a piece of mature hard cheese.
• With cloudy apple juice, ice and a cinnamon stick as a stirrer.
• An apple martini with lemon juice, sugar syrup and a thin slice of apple.
• With ginger ale and lime – a fresh autumn drink with a little bite.
• A splash in warm mulled apple juice, or over vanilla ice cream with fried apples.

About the Essence

Apple Vodka is part of the PR (Prestige) series and a good example of what the series stands for: a clean, recognisable flavour without artificial overtones. Apple is also one of the most food-friendly fruit flavours, which makes the bottle as useful on the autumn dinner table as on the summer drinks trolley.

For professional users and producers the same essence is available in 25 litres. At home the small bottle goes a long way – a quarter of an hour before your guests arrive is time enough to mix, chill and slice an apple for the garnish.
