PR Absinthe Pro Classic Green Absinthe Essence 20 ml – essence for a classic green absinthe

PR Absinthe Pro Classic Green Absinthe Essence turns vodka or neutral spirit into a classic green absinthe – dry, herbal and bittersweet with wormwood, green anise, fennel, star anise, hyssop and lemon balm. It louches, turning milky, when ice-cold water is added.

The 20 ml bottle makes 750 ml of finished absinthe. Real absinthe with 35 mg thujone per bottle. Instructions are on the label.

Serve with an absinthe spoon, a sugar cube and slowly dripping iced water.

PR Absinthe Pro Classic Green Absinthe Essence 20 ml

Few drinks come wrapped in as much ceremony as absinthe. In the heyday of the artists’ cafés it even had its own time of day – the green hour – when the glasses came out, the spoons were laid in place and the water dripped unhurriedly while the conversation gathered speed. Absinthe Pro Classic Green is built for exactly that moment: a grown-up, uncompromising green absinthe with the whole herb garden intact.

This is the same product we sell to commercial producers, simply packed in a consumer size. You get the professionals’ recipe in a small bottle that makes one full bottle – complete with the noble bitterness of wormwood, the cool sweetness of anise and the louche that every genuine absinthe should show.

Colour & Appearance

Once mixed, the absinthe is a clear emerald green, like light falling through a spring leaf. Drip in ice-cold water and the louche begins: green veils swirl up from the bottom, and before long the whole glass has turned milky and opalescent in a pale jade green. It is the essential oils of anise and fennel separating as they meet the water.

Nose

The nose is big and green. Green anise and star anise strike first, sweet and cool, with fennel seed close behind. Then comes the wormwood – dry, silvery and aromatic – together with the camphor-fresh note of hyssop, lemon balm and a warm streak of coriander seed.

Palate

The palate is dry, herbal and bittersweet, in precisely that order. The anise gives a soft, almost creamy opening that is quickly joined by the roundness of fennel. Then the wormwood steps forward with its clean, elegant bitterness – distinct but never harsh – and gives the drink its backbone. Hyssop and lemon balm add a green, faintly minty freshness, while the coriander lays a peppery citrus note in the background. With water, the mouthfeel turns silky and the aromas open up layer upon layer.

Finish

The finish is long, cool and dry. Anise and fennel fade slowly, while the bitterness of the wormwood lingers as a clean, appetising note right at the back of the tongue.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished absinthe that can be enjoyed straight away. Instructions are on the label. The finished absinthe is then diluted in the glass with ice-cold water to taste.

Serving Suggestions

  • The classic ritual: rest a sugar cube on the absinthe spoon over the glass and let ice-cold water drip slowly until the drink has turned opal.
  • Without sugar, just iced water – for those who want the bitterness and herbs undisguised.
  • Absinthe frappé: shake with crushed ice, a little sugar syrup and mint.
  • Rinse the glass with absinthe before a Sazerac or a Corpse Reviver No. 2.
  • A splash in a glass of ice-cold sparkling wine – dry, herbal and festive.

About the Essence

Absinthe Pro Classic Green belongs to the PR (Prestige) series and is our classic green absinthe – the one most commercial producers choose. Every finished bottle contains 35 mg thujone, and the drink louches exactly as an absinthe should.

The essence is also available in 280 ml – with or without 14 absinthe labels and a measure – as well as in 1 litre and 25 litres. In the 25-litre format there is also a thujone-free version with the same flavour.
