LW Ambrosia Whisky Essence – essence for a smooth malt whisky

LW Ambrosia Whisky Essence gives vodka or neutral spirit the taste of a smooth malt whisky with notes of honey, malt, dried fruit, vanilla and a light wisp of smoke.

One bottle makes 1.2 litres of finished whisky. Instructions are on the label.

Enjoy it neat in a nosing glass, with a few drops of water or over one large ice cube.

LW Ambrosia Whisky Essence

Ambrosia was the food of the gods in the old myths, and the name is well chosen. This is the essence for those who prefer the gentler, more contemplative side of malt whisky – not the heavily smoked kind that smells of a campfire, but the honeyed, fruity and elegant style you happily sit with for a long while in front of the fire.

Malt whisky of this school is all about patience and nuance. It is not out to impress with brute force but with layer upon layer of flavour that unfolds the longer the glass is left to stand. Give it time and it will reward you handsomely.

Colour & Appearance

The finished whisky has a lovely golden colour, somewhere between straw and pale amber. It is clear and clean, and forms fine, slow tears down the inside of the glass.

Nose

The nose is soft and many-layered. First come malt, heather honey and freshly baked bread. Then the fruit opens up: pear, red apple, raisins and a little orange marmalade. In the background there is vanilla, toasted oak and a quiet trail of smoke – more like a fire in the distance than flames under your nose.

Palate

The palate follows the nose but carries more weight. The malty sweetness is clear and recalls dark syrup and digestive biscuits. Next come dried figs, sultanas and candied orange peel, together with vanilla fudge and a nutty note of almond and hazelnut. The oak notes lend a dry, lightly spicy structure with ginger and nutmeg. The smoke is discreet, yet it ties everything together and gives the whisky its classic soul.

Finish

The finish is long, warm and slightly dry. Honey and malt fade first, followed by oak, dark chocolate and a last whisper of smoke. It is an aftertaste that invites reflection.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit. One bottle makes 1.2 litres of finished whisky. The flavours tend to round out nicely if the blend is left to rest for a few days. Instructions are on the label.

Serving Suggestions

  • Neat in a tulip-shaped glass, at room temperature.
  • With a teaspoon of water to open up the aromas.
  • Over a single large ice cube that melts slowly.
  • As a highball with soda water and lemon zest for a lighter serve.
  • Alongside dark chocolate, a mature hard cheese or a piece of smoked salmon.

About the Essence

The LW series is our line for the discerning whisky lover, with the focus on depth, balance and a long finish. Ambrosia is the smooth malt profile of the series – an excellent choice both for the newcomer wanting to get acquainted with malt whisky and for the seasoned drinker who values finesse over power.

One tip is to mix your whisky a few days before you plan to serve it. That gives the flavours a chance to settle, and the whole becomes rounder and more harmonious. Serve it in a glass that narrows towards the rim – it gathers the aromas and makes the experience a good deal bigger.
