FS Pineapple Fruit Shot Essence 20 ml

Pineapple is the fruit that can never help making an entrance. It is sweet and sour at once, juicy enough to splash, and has a scent you recognise from right across the room. No wonder it has been the drinks world’s favourite fruit for generations – nothing says party and parasols quite so clearly.

FS Pineapple takes that character and turns it into a fruit shot with some drive. The sweetness is there, as in a properly sun-ripened fruit, but it is the lively acidity that makes the shot so refreshing and so easy to mix. It suits anyone wanting a fruit drink with more bite than the gentlest flavours, without ever turning rough or sour.

Colour & Appearance

Once mixed, the drink gives a sunny, inviting impression with a lightly syrupy body. Straight from the freezer it is thick and smooth, and in a tall glass with ice and a fizzy mixer it looks exactly like the cooling summer drink it is.

Nose

The nose is unmistakable: freshly cut pineapple, sweet and tart together, with that slightly resinous, exotic top note only pineapple has. Beneath it lie notes of tinned pineapple juice, yellow boiled sweets and a touch of citrus. It smells juicy and appetising.

Palate

The palate strikes up at once with a tart, juicy snap that makes the mouth water. Shortly afterwards the ripe sweetness spreads out – think caramelised pineapple ring and fruit juice – and rounds off the edges. The balance between sweet and sour is what makes the shot so hard to resist: one side wakes you up, the other rewards you. A faint note of coconut and vanilla flits past in the middle, and the warmth of the spirit only arrives at the end. Chilled, the acidity grows more pointed and the shot fresher still.

Finish

The finish is medium-long, clean and lively. The pineapple acidity tingles a little on the tongue, just as it does after a piece of fresh fruit, while the sweetness fades at an unhurried pace. The close is drier than you expect, which makes another sip very tempting.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit, plus sugar. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished fruit shot. Instructions are on the label.

Serving Suggestions

• An ice-cold shot with a small piece of fresh pineapple on the rim.
• With coconut drink or coconut cream and crushed ice – a creamy classic.
• With ginger beer and lime for a spicier long drink.
• With fruit soda or lemon soda and plenty of ice.
• As a flavouring for grilled pineapple with ice cream.
