Strawberry Fruit Shot Essence takes that feeling and pours it into a shot glass: sweet, juicy and unmistakably summery, whatever the calendar says.

This is a fruit shot of the light-hearted kind, made for toasts among friends rather than for solemn tastings. Colour & Appearance

Once mixed, the drink is glossy and slightly viscous from the sugar. Served really cold it takes on a velvety texture that strokes the inside of the glass.

Nose

The nose is like opening a jar of home-made strawberry jam. Ripe, sweet strawberries dominate, with a note of freshly pressed strawberry juice and a hint of green leaves from the strawberry patch. Behind the fruit you can sense a little vanilla and something reminiscent of strawberry toffee.

Palate

The palate is purely and clearly strawberry from the very first drop. First comes the sweet, sun-warmed fruit – like berries picked late in the afternoon – and shortly afterwards a light tartness that freshens things up and stops the sweetness from growing heavy. In the middle there is a juicy, almost jammy fullness, and the spirit stays politely in the background as a mild warmth. In mixed drinks the strawberry holds its character beautifully, lending both flavour and aroma to the glass.

Finish

The finish is sweet, berry-rich and clean. The strawberry fades slowly with a small, fresh tang at the end, much like the moment after a spoonful of freshly stirred jam.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit plus sugar. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished fruit shot. Instructions are on the label.

• Cold shot for the midsummer table or with dessert.
• A splash in the bottom of a glass of sparkling wine – garnish with a fresh strawberry.
• With lemon soda, ice and a wedge of lime in a tall glass.
