Candy Shot Mint Toffee Essence 20 ml
The mint toffee is one of the great classics of the sweet counter: the hard, glossy boiled sweet that tastes of peppermint first and then softens into chewy toffee. Candy Shot Mint Toffee captures that experience in a glass – sweets as schnapps, quite simply. And unlike many mild mint flavours, this one is generously proportioned: the peppermint makes itself known from the very first second.
Dissolving boiled sweets in spirit is an old party curiosity, but the result is seldom pretty. With an essence you get higher quality than dissolved sweets – a clear drink with no sediment and a clean flavour that is the same every time. This is a shot for adults who like it when sweet meets fresh.
Colour & Appearance
The drink turns a pale amber, a shade lighter than a straight toffee shot. The sugar gives it a little body, and out of the freezer it is thick and cold, like liquid caramel.
Nose
The peppermint arrives first and arrives clearly: cool menthol, crushed candy cane, fresh mint leaves. Just beneath lies the toffee – butter, cream and burnt sugar – which warms up the nose and makes it more sweet shop than herb garden.
Palate
The opening is fresh and cooling. Peppermint spreads across the tongue and up into the nose, just as it does when you bite through the hard shell of a mint toffee. Then comes the toffee itself: chewy, sweet and buttery, with vanilla and caramelised sugar. The two flavours take turns in the spotlight – cool, warm, cool again – and that interplay is the whole point. The sweetness is evident, but the mint keeps it fresh, so the drink never feels heavy.
Finish
The finish is long and cool. The menthol hangs on longest, with a faint note of toffee and vanilla underneath. Your breath feels fresh for a good while afterwards.
How to Use
The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit and granulated sugar to make 75 cl of candy shot. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished drink. Instructions are on the label.
Serving Suggestions
- An ice-cold schnapps from the freezer – mint is at its best properly cold.
- A splash in hot chocolate with whipped cream.
- With chocolate liqueur and cream for a mint-chocolate drink.
- Over chocolate ice cream or in a milkshake for grown-ups.
- In the coffee after a hearty dinner.
About the Essence
Mint Toffee is the freshest of the toffee flavours in the Candy Shot range and a dependable winter favourite, after a day on the slopes or to round off the Christmas table. It works just as well as a schnapps in a small glass as it does flavouring hot drinks. Serve it in small glasses and let it be a bright spot in the evening rather than the evening’s theme.
If you find the mint too dominant, there is Candy Shot Caramint, where toffee leads and the mint is only hinted at. If you prefer pure mint with no toffee, there is a peppermint schnapps in the Prestige range. Mint Toffee sits right between the two – for those who want both elements, with the mint in the driving seat.
