Ambrosia Whisky Essence 20 ml
In the old myths, ambrosia was the food of the gods – sweet, fragrant and reserved for those seated at the very top of the mountain. A name like that carries obligations, and this whisky does its best to live up to them. Ambrosia is a malt whisky of the silky kind: no sharp edge, no rowdy smoke, just layer upon layer of honey, fruit and gentle malt.
Where many whiskies set out to impress with power, Ambrosia chooses charm. It is the bottle you bring out when the guests say they don’t really care for whisky – and the one that often changes their minds. For the seasoned whisky drinker it is instead the calm moment of the evening, a glass that demands nothing and simply gives.
Colour & Appearance
Once mixed, the whisky takes on a warm, honey-yellow colour with a copper shimmer – like golden syrup in sunlight. It is bright and clear, and glides softly down the inside of the glass.
Nose
The nose is generous and sweet without ever becoming heavy. Heather honey and beeswax arrive first, then juicy pear, golden raisins and freshly made orange marmalade. Behind the fruit there is malt, like white bread and butter, and a note of blanched almond and marzipan. Deepest of all you sense a quiet smoke, more the memory of a log fire than the fire itself.
Palate
The first impression on the palate is the softness – the whisky feels almost creamy. The honey spreads out at once, followed by pear poached in vanilla, raisins and the bittersweet orange marmalade that gives all that sweetness some spring in its step. The malt builds the body, with flavours of barley biscuit and pale toffee. The almond returns towards the middle, together with a little butter caramel and a pinch of cinnamon. The smoke keeps to the wings and shows mostly as a drier, lightly toasted note that stops the flavour from becoming too well behaved.
Finish
The finish is medium-long, smooth and quietly warming. Honey, orange peel and almond fade out in orderly fashion, leaving behind a soft maltiness and a touch of dry smoke.
How to Use
The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished spirit that can be served straight away. Instructions are on the label.
Serving Suggestions
- Neat in a small glass after dinner – it needs no company.
- With a drop of water to lift the pear and honey.
- With apple cake, almond biscuits, crème brûlée or a cheeseboard with blue cheese.
- In a Rusty Nail with honey liqueur and ice.
- In a hot toddy with lemon and a cinnamon stick when the wind is howling outside.
About the Essence
Ambrosia is the whisky for those who put softness and sweetness before smoke and strength. It has become a favourite among customers looking for an easy-drinking, elegant malt whisky to offer round – one that suits the beginner just as well as the connoisseur who wants something restful in the glass.
Thanks to its fruity, honey-round character it is also rewarding in cooking and desserts: a few tablespoons in a toffee sauce or over vanilla ice cream make a big difference. The essence is also available in 280 ml, 1000 ml and 25 litres for larger gatherings and professional use.
