Sugar-Free Anisette Liqueur Essence 20 ml

Anisette is the gentlest member of the anise liqueur family. Where other anise drinks are dry and powerful, anisette is sweet, round and friendly – a liqueur traditionally sipped after a meal or let down with cold water until it turns milky white. With Sugar-Free Anisette Liqueur Essence you get the classic style, but the sweetness is already in the essence.

That means no weighing out sugar and no waiting for it to dissolve. The essence and the spirit are all it takes, and the result tastes just as sweet and full as a regular anise liqueur. We were early to offer sugar-free liqueur essences, and anisette is one of the flavours where the technique really comes into its own.

Colour & Appearance

The finished liqueur is crystal clear and bright. Add cold water or ice and it slowly clouds into an opal-white drink with a mother-of-pearl shimmer – the same lovely effect as in classic anise drinks.

Nose

The nose is clean and sweet with green anise, and the slightly deeper, warmer spice of star anise just beneath. There is fennel seed too, a note of soft liquorice root and something cool and herbal that makes it smell fresh rather than heavy.

Palate

The palate is sweet and silky from the start. Green anise provides the bright, almost floral top note, while the star anise fills in with warmth and depth. The liquorice is of the mild kind – sweet liquorice root, not salty – and lies like a rounded base beneath the spices. The sweetness feels full and natural in the mouth, and the spirit adds a pleasant warmth that lifts the aromas.

Finish

The finish is long, cool and clean. Anise and fennel stay on the tongue for a good while, with a soft liquorice note that fades slowly and leaves the mouth refreshed.

How to Use

The essence is mixed with vodka or neutral spirit – no added sugar is needed, because the sweetness is in the essence. 20 ml makes 750 ml of finished liqueur that can be enjoyed straight away. Instructions are on the label.

Serving Suggestions

• Well chilled in a small glass after dinner.
• With iced water in a tall glass – watch the drink turn milky white.
• A splash in a cup of strong black coffee.
• Over ice with a slice of lemon as a fresh aperitif.
• A few drops in a fruit salad or over fresh orange slices.
